I like to make sculptures with things that most people have in their homes. That could be a chair, wooden spoons, a broom, potatoes or books. After I have worked on them, you cannot use them any more. You know, for example, that books are for reading and you have to be careful with them. Well, I drilled holes in a book and put wires through. I wanted people to think about what else a book can be. It can be a voyage, because a book takes you to unknown places. The holes have made words disappear. The wires that come out want to draw you in. My book shows you what reading is like.

In the objects I make, I am always looking for a contrast. I use contrasting materials, for example, shiny copper and rough wood. Or electric wires and potatoes. Things that are not usually seen together, which makes them Š surprising.

When you have seen my broom, you will never think of a broom as being ordinary any more!

SURPRISE is something you have never seen before. Something that makes you look twice, or that makes you laugh. Something you did not expect
